The Pioneer Woman Guest Blogger

Well, once again, like Anne Lamott, she doesn’t know she’s a guest blogger…but she writes to me every day. Do yourself a favor and check out Ree Drummond at http://thepioneerwoman.com. Her site is a beautiful combination of photography, cooking, family stories, and just down-to-earth enjoyment…that’s the word I want. She is the newest thing […]

Wish I knew Anne Lamott outside of just reading her book…and that she was my friend…and that I had asked her to be a guest blogger…and that she said yes. Instead, I thank Sunset […]

Whatcha thinkin’ about?

Surrounded by my friends on writer’s night, sometimes I just sit in wonderment and listen to these girls who have so much to share and so much to give…not just to me, but in their respective areas of interest and expertise and passion. All of these women see […]

Writer’s Night: Cristina’s Hands

Photo by Elizabeth Flesh with her caption: “Thank God this girl is home”

Many of you know that Cristina and her husband, David were in a serious accident while visiting the Philippines, in which David acquired five broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Cristina wrote to all of us on […]

Writer’s Night: Parminder

Photo by Elizabeth Flesh – Caption: “lovely spirit here”

The first writer’s night of the summer was Tuesday night, and we were soooo anxious to see each other, to hug Cristina after her terrible ordeal in the Philippines, and to hear the poetry of the summer. There is so much to share […]

Is there a Power greater than Me?

Yeah, but….

What does the definition of “Power” have to be?

Does it have to be the same for you and me?

Does it have to have the “God” word attached to it?

Does it have to have a “religion” attached to it?

Is it the same as spirituality?

Does it have to have a […]

Happy Birthday to my amazing, beautiful daughter-in-law

It appears that in my blog entries over the last four months, I egregiously overuse amazing and beautiful. Thought I’d take a closer look at the two words.

amazing: surprising, astonishing, bewildering, perplexing, confusing, astounding, marvelous, unusual, rare, extraordinary, strange, outstanding, uncommon, special, distinguished, prominent, important, noteworthy, awe-inspiring, awesome, unique, fine, unheard of, unexpected, seldom […]

AHIMSA: Go forth from the dot…live it, be it, love.

The final moments of the Institute began in the morning with the visit I shared earlier from the Dean. As usual, we had a lot to say so the session with Dean Hilles went longer than Tara expected. Above is a moment where the emotion in the room is caught between Tara, Susan, and Christian, […]

AHIMSA: Sunday…you know there was another meal.

The ahimsakas were busy on their last day…some playing…some sleeping late…and some desperately finishing up lesson plans due at 9 a.m. Monday morning. My roommates and I were not desperate…definitely sleeping in…and definitely planning to attend the Sunday afternoon brunch at a local Pakistani restaurant complete with champagne and mango juice.
